At CEMovers we are committed to providing you with all the necessary help or advice needed to make your move as hassle-free as possible.
To get you started, we have listed a few helpful tips below that you may like to follow when preparing for your relocation. Please remember, though, that we will guide you through the entire moving process and will assist wherever possible - from providing the required documentation to answering all your questions.
Choose a reliable mover in your region.
Clear out all your unwanted goods. Most items are cheaper to ship than to replace though, so it's not a good idea to get rid of everything.
Safely dispose of flammables such as paint, fuel and gas cylinders.
Drain the fuel from heaters, lamps and lawn mowers.
Check all the electrical goods you are planning on taking with and determine whether they will they work in your new home.
Inform others of your change of address. Those people and organisations that should be notified include:
Post Office - to redirect your mail
Bank
Property Office or landlord
Satellite TV Provier
Motor Licensing Authority
Insurance companies
Clubs and societies
Publications to which you subscribe
Stores where you have accounts
Relatives and friends
Lawyers, accountants, doctors
Agree on a termination date for household services such as:
water
electricity
telephone
newspaper
M-Net/Satellite TV
Also ask for bills to be made out in advance.
Gather up your personal documentation including:
marriage and birth certificates
driving licenses
passports
visas (if required)
medical records and certificates
investment documents
insurance records
personal travel documents
Ensure that these documents - as well as jewellery, glasses, watches, money and firearms - are kept separate so they are not packed with your other possessions.
If you have children, also remember to separate cherished toys to travel with you. It may also be useful to get them involved in the move by letting them find out about their new home - either through books, magazines, brochures or the Internet. To help your children feel even more involved, CEMovers offer them their own little boxes that they can pack with their own possessions if they wish.
Check on import regulations and the duty payable if you want to take the car.
Make sure vaccinations and documentations are up to date for pets.
If your new home will not be ready by the time your possessions arrive, you'll need to arrange temporary storage for them.
Also arrange your finances, which may include closing or transferring your various bank accounts.
Start running down freezer stocks.
Don't forget to return library books or any items you might have borrowed from friends.
Ensure that you have not left any clothing at the dry cleaner or sporting equipment in lockers.
Prior to packing, ensure that you have dealt with your household appliances
Defrost your fridge
Anchor the drum of your automatic washing machine by attaching the shipping brackets
Disconnect your stove and computer's connection
When leaving your house for the last time:
Make sure that the geyser and all taps have been turned off.
Check that you haven't left anything behind in any of the rooms, the attic, garden or garage.
Close all the windows and lock all the doors
Hand over your house key
